I am a true believer in something simple that parents can do that will make a difference in their child’s adult life.
I have a letter that my mama wrote me August 25, 1975.
I was 20 months old.
And the love that my mom had for me as a little one is expressed beautifully on paper.
That’s another blog for another day….that letter makes me teary.
But tomorrow’s father’s day so this is about dad’s letter….My dad’s letter is dated 4-28-91.
Here’s an excerpt……
My dearest Mindy….I wanted to write to you this letter to tell you how much I love you and I also wanted to ask you to please forgive me for the times that I’ve been insensitive towards you.
I have realized that what I do makes me so over protective that I don’t want the world to hurt you. You are a good girl and I feel very blessed to have you as our daughter.
The other day when someone asked you about college and what you wanted to study and you said you wanted to work with kids, I was so proud to hear that. Who knows, someday you could run your own club?
…….I will always be there for you, no matter what. I may get mad or angry but my love for you never changes and you can count on that. Continue to be a good girl because you are a father’s dream for a daughter. I love you, Dad.
So parents………………write a letter to your child. It doesn’t cost you anything but time and patience and an open heart.
And if a survey asked me what I would grab in the event of a fire, this would be one of the first things…….
Have a great father’s day!
PS----if you didn’t grow up with a father (like my BEST FRIEND, Becca---her father died when she was 3), thank your mama tomorrow…..Becca bought her mom a father’s day gift….because her mama had to be both! :)

That is a beautiful letter! You are a lucky lady! :D
Letters are wonderful, aren't they? I have my students write themselves a letter each year and then I send them when they are in high school.
