I'm sure you know the saying....
"When one door closes, another door opens"
God is pretty clever in the things he does.....
My "Jack"....I've talked about him numerous times. He's one of the few kids that I really worry about and he has come to confide in me and look up to me to be a moral compass for him.
About a month ago, he began doing his own thing.......and the Club was not in his agenda for the day any longer.
In doing his own thing, he got himself suspended from the club for 2 weeks.........one of the hardest things I've ever had to do but it's the rule and I needed him to follow it. I met with his parents and we were all on the same page. And in a two week period, he dropped out of school, began attending the alternative high school and was getting in trouble.
With the Law.
He was arrested and is currently in the juvenile detention center until December 1st where they will determine if they'll let him out or keep him.
And my heart aches.......
But then, that window starts to creek open......

And here comes another kid. A kid who is best friends with Jack. A kid who has chosen the right path. Who will be graduating in May. Who is talking to me about college. Who is still attending a regular high school despite every single one of his friends (12) have either dropped out or are attending alternative schools.
And the window is pushed open more as I begin to help with a 10 page paper on the Bubonic Plague.
And even when I feel like no one is listening, one of my kids shows up and reminds me that he's heard me all along.

This hit a chord and I want to tell you about the kids I worry about all the time...those, like these that you see who make poor decisions. I know exactly what you mean, and just how you feel.
Keep the spirits up and keep doing what you do MindyE, keep doing what you do...
