And all of these crazy memories from my childhood came back.
And this is TEN reasons why I had the best parents in the 80's......
- My mom loved video games. We had Atari (thanks to Mom) and we were the first on the street to have it. Pac Man anyone??? My mama was the champ! Nobody could beat her score.
- My dad loved (and still does) going to the movies. We would go to the double features which were awesome. Some of the great movies of the 80's, I saw with my dad. Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Pretty in Pink......Karate Kid Part 2 all with dad and sister. Only had one sister to go to the movies during that time LOL. OMG and drive in movies (because Dani was a baby!) were great.........and we could fall asleep. They would do a double feature a kid movie first and then an adult movie. Kramer vs Kramer (learning about DIVORCE) because I stayed up at the drive in watching it LOL!
- I hated the rubic's cube......I'm not a puzzle girl. We would mess it up and my mama would fix it. She could fix anything---including getting all the colors together on the right side of a rubic's cube.
- Breakdancing was obviously the coolest thing ever. We had a carport so everyone in the neighborhood would come to our house. We had our own cardboard (thanks to my dad). We were cool.
- The day that I graduated from 8th grade, my mama brought me Mylar Balloons to school and flowers! That was HUGE! Mylar balloons!?!? WOW! And the balloon said "You're So Special"
- I was terrified of Haley's Comet after the movie Night of the Comet. No one in my family made fun of me. Everybody was cool with the fact that I didn't want ANYONE outside looking at the comet. Oh well that was too bad. Nobody watched it. Yea!
- We had this thing---pre VHS and Pre Beta (yup, we had both!) It was called a Laserdisc and we owned movies like Gone With The Wind, Grease 2, The Apple Dumpling Game and you would insert the entire disc into the machine and then it would such the movie itself out and kick back the shell case and we could watch movies over and over again. From there, we had Beta. And we had a membership card to go rent movies. Whoa!
- When I did well on a report card, my mom took me to teaching tools and I got a pen called the Outliner. OMG so cool!
- In the first grade, I was struggling with math (a problem I hold to this day LOL) and my mama bought me this owl calculator thing which was really math problems, questions and it was cool and interactive and I loved it. I'm going to buy one now on Ebay!
- My mama bought me a Swatch Phone----Two people could talk on the phone at once. Amazing!

My best friend's family had a video disk player. I remember begging my parents for one but they wouldn't get one…guess I should have lived on your street.
Hi! :) This REALLY brought back memories! Thanks so much for sharing. :D
