I love this holiday.
For many reasons……
1st because it’s my namesake, my Auntie Mindy’s birthday.
My mama’s little sister and my dad’s friend passed away of Leukemia at the age of 16.
I always thought it was so cool to have her birthday on the fourth of July, to have fireworks on her birthday that we could see here and in heaven.
My 2nd reason to love this holiday is because I love love love swimming, bbq and games with my family. These are priceless memories that I’ll have forever….Bethany and I discussing her wedding plans while in the pool. My mama’s homemade potato salad. My dad playing Guesstures! Yeah, I know…..crazy memories….love it.
My 3rd reason to love this holiday is that in Boys & Girls Club time it means we are 1/2 way through the summer. OMG thank you! WHEW! (Technically, I have three weeks left….the countdown has begun.!)
My 4th reason to love this holiday is my love for fireworks…..I’ve always been a fireworks fan…..One of my favorite fireworks memories is laying on a blanket at Ahwatukee Foothills Golf Course, watching the fireworks and in a slight whisper, I hear, “See Min, I told you I would give you the heavens.” and I felt that mushy love feeling you get and you just FEEL…alive, loved, safe. That memory always comes back to me when I see fireworks.
My 5th reason is here…..the thoughtfulness of my best friend, creating recipes for the kids to make (and us to eat!) and a red/white/blue drink…….to buy glow things for the kids knowing they will love them. And of course, driving into some crazy random road/farm in Queen Creek to watch the fireworks. 
Today was a great day!
